Overwiew of Bioinorganic Chemistry. Essential Chemical Elements. Metal Functions in Biological Systems. Principles of Coordination Chemistry related to Bioinorganic Chemistry: Thermodynamic and Kinectic Aspects. Biochemistry Fundamentals: Proteins and their Constituents, Nucleic Acids and their Constituents, Other Metal-Binding Biomolecules. Metal Ions Transport and Storage. Biomineralization Processes. O 2 and N 2 Biological Activation Processes. Iron containing Biomolecules: Haem-proteins, non-haem proteins, siderophores. Copper Proteins and Enzymes. Molybdenum Enzymes. Vitamine B12 and Coenzyme B12. Zinc Proteins and Enzymes. Biological role of other transition metals: Vanadium, Chromium, Manganese and Nickel. Biological role of Alkaline and Alkalineearth Metals. Non metallic elements in biology. Bioniorganic Chemistry in Medicine. Toxicity of  Inorganic Systems .

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Lecture (Theory): Oral exposition of the theoretical contents of the course by the lecturer, using audiovisual methods

Lecture (Practice): Students perform several laboratory experiments and develop a laboratory notebook

Seminars: Oral presentations by students and resolution of exercices

Homework: Study of theoretical contents and preparation of exercices and oral presentations

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Written exam on the theorical and practical course.

Attendance at all laboratory sessions.

Resolution of exercises   and preparation of oral presentations.
