1. Introduction to the English language.
2. Levels and units for linguistic description.
3. Academic essays in English.
4. The structure of linguistic essays.
5. Form and content of linguistic essays.
6. Resources for the analysis of the English language.
- Group sessions.
- Practice sessions.
- Debates and discussions.
- Written assignments uploaded through the virtual learning platform.
- Participation in all these sessions and activities.
- Oral interventions in class.
Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support
1. Participation (up to 10% of the final mark).
Active participation will especially be taken into
account not only in theoretical but also in practice sessions.
2. Uploading the written assignments (up to 20% of the
final mark).
Throughout the term students will be asked to upload some
exercises and tasks through the virtual learning platform. These
will allow them to practise what they learned. Assignments must be
uploaded before the deadline finishes.
[The marks for sections 1 and 2 will only be available during the current academic year (2014-2015)]
3. Final exam ( up to 70% of the final mark).
The final exam will consist of the following sections:
- Theoretical concepts: definition and examples of the
concepts explained both in class and in the course bibliography.
- Grammar exercises.
- Morphological and syntactic analysis.
Obviously enough, the students' use of English will also be taken into account for the final mark.
