3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

Subject 1. Physical principles of the course:

-       Physical quantities and units.

-       Electricity & circuits: get back to basics.

-       The principles of thermodynamics.

-       Practical lesson: Applying concepts. Numerical exercises

Subject  2. Introduction to Solar PV

-       Achievements and Challenges of PV.

-       Economics & environmental aspect of PV.

-       Six myths of photovoltaic.

-       History of photovoltaic.

-       Comparative analysis with other renewable energy sources.

-       Apps and classifying for PV systems

-       Practical lesson: Student work on the topic. Presentation &Discussion.

Subject 3. The solar cell

-       Semiconductor’s main features.

-       Photovoltaic effect: Physical basics of solar cells operation.

-       Solar cell I-V characteristic.

-       Efficiency and losses.

-       Technology overview.

-       Practical lesson: Spice simulation & measurement of a solar cell.

Subject 4.  The PV generator

-       The PV module. Interconnecting cells and modules.

-       Energy generated by a PV generator.

-       Measurement and characterization of PV modules.

-       Performance features.

-       Practical lesson: Software tools for sizing.
