3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

1. The development of the application of new technologies in language teaching and learning over the past decades.

2. Strategies used in the search for new materials and their use.

3. Integrating tasks using the Internet with more traditional material.

4. How to enrich the acquisition of the four main language skills.

5. Internet and intercultural competence.

6.  How to use multimedia software and non-content software in the teaching and learning of languages.

7. Using varied Internet resources to access specific and authentic materials. Different types of materials.

8. Use and creation of audio and video files to teach and learn a language.

 9. Using Internet to teach languages in collaboration. Collaborative strategies: treasure hunts, WebTasks, WebQuests.

10. Online collaborative exchanges in language teaching and learning: email projects, etwinning projects, Tandem projects.

11. How to use the Web 2.0 to teach and learn a language.

12. Managing the Web 2.0 tools to enhance language teaching: blogs, bookmarks, wikis, etc.

13. Instructional design and educational platforms.

14. Using the smart board to teach and learn a language. 

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

The methodology of this course is based on a student-centred approach; the tutors are, therefore, motivators and facilitators in the learning process, both in the on-site and in the on-line parts of the course.

In a Masters course we do not consider it appropriate to lecture, i.e. to ‘transmit’ our knowledge to students by telling them what we know. We believe that students can and should take a lead in presenting the important ideas and theories which we wish to discuss. The role of the tutors is to create a conceptual framework, suggest possible implications and applications for practice, and respond to the ideas of students.

Since the course aims at keeping a balance between theory and practice, part of the sessions will also be devoted to the implementation of activities proposed by students and which they will carry out in groups. These activities will explore from a practical perspective the main theoretical aspects of the course.

All course participants will be asked to be actively involved in the course by participating in the group activities, reading key works and designing materials by means of Information and Communication Technologies. 

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Participants’ interest and participation, together with the design of tasks during on-site sessions, amount to 40% of the student’s final grade. The final task, the design of materials through ICT, constitutes 40%. Self-assessment constitutes the remaining 20%.
