1. The semiotics of theatre and drama. a. A semiotic approach to theatre and drama. b. Theatre vs. drama. c. The dramatic sign 2. English drama of the 20th century. a. Experimentalism and expressionism. b. Popular theatre. c. Political theatre: Pinter, Wesker, McGrath, Arden, StoppardÂÂ… 3. Alternative drama a. In Yer Face Theatre and other movements. b. Leading figures: Penhall, Kane.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

This course requires regular attendance and active participation. Lectures will demand students' comments, and there will be class presentations. Assigned readings will be discussed in class.

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

1. Attendance and active participation (60%). Oral presentation (40%). Those students not attending classes for a justified reason will receive additional assignments by lecturers, including a more complex essay or a longer presentation.
