3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

An analysis of the major instance of popular culture in the US and the UK, paying special attention to literature, music and television. 1. Popular culture. a. Concept and definitions, history and ideology. b. Pop culture from the 1960s onwards. 2. Popular literature. a. Romance fiction b. Historical fiction 3. Television a. Cooking programs b. Reality shows. 4. Popular music a. Historical evolution b. Corpus analysis

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

This course requires regular attendance and active participation. Lectures will demand students' comments, and there will be class presentations. Assigned readings will be discussed in class. Attendance to tutorials and exchanging ideas with the lecturers will be extremely important.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

1. Attendance and active participation (70%). Oral presentation (30%). Those students not attending classes for a justified reason will receive additional assignments by lecturers, including a more complex essay or a longer presentation.
