3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

Study of the artistic manifestations occurring in Latin America during the centuries that pass between the Discovery to  the Independence of the different territories, valuing the pre-Hispanic history.


I. Art in Pre-Hispanic America.

1. The first American Cultures.

3. Other significant Mexican cultures.

4. The Incas and the Andean Cultures.

 

II. Architecture, urban planning and development of the main artistic genres in the 16th century in Mexico, Central  America, and the Caribbean.

5. The West Indies and the origin of the Hispanic-American Art.

6. Architecture and urbanism in the Viceroyalty of New Spain in the 16th century.

7. Visual Arts in the 16th century in the Viceroyalty of New Spain.

 
III. Architecture, urban planning and development of the main artistic genres in the 16th century in South America.

8. Architecture and urbanism in the Viceroyalty of Peru in the 16th century.

9. Visual arts in South America in the 16th century.

 
IV. Growth and heyday of the Mexican art of the 17th and 18th centuries. Major centres and evolution of the artistic genres.

10. The development of the baroque architecture in New Spain.

V. Integration and cultural mix. Plastic arts from the 17th and 18th centuries in South America.

It is advisable to attend classes: the final examination consist in the commentary of masterpieces seen in class.
