3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

This course aism to provide a basic description of music elements and its evolution through the most influential, enduring, and significant pieces of Western musical history. It encompasses a wide range of music, from religious to secular, from serious to humorous, from art music to popular music. The music is place in its artistic, social and historical context for each repertoire to reveal its legacy and its significance today. The main aims of the course are:

1. Recognizing the basic elements of musical language, so they permit his analysis and evolution during the time.

2. Analysing the cultural Western patrimony's musical works like examples of artistic creation, from the Antiquity to 20th century music. 

3. Using of autonomous and creative way diverse musical sources of information (scores, texts, audiovisual presentations, etc.).

4. Acquiring vocabulary that it let explaining of oral and written form musical processes and establishing evaluations of one's own.

5. Promoting the hearing of musical works as way of esthetic and artistic expression.

6. Knowing the different musical manifestations through the history and his significance in the artistic and sociocultural space.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Daily activities, listenings, exercises and readings of scores and texts related to the theorical and practical contents. Final exam paper. Presentations.

- Attendance: 15%

- Practical activities and presentations: 35%

- Final exam: 50%
