3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

Unit 1. 

Grammar: First conditional and future, time clauses + when, until

               Second condtional

               Usually and used to

 Vocabulary: Education, houses, friendship, get

 Pronunciation and listening: Sentence stress

Writing: Describing a house or flat

Unit 2:

Grammar: Quantifiers 

               Articles: a/an, the, no article

               Gerunds and infinitives 

Vocabulary: Noun formation, verbs and adjectives + prepositions, connectors, work

Pronunciation and listening:Sentence stress, word stress

Writing: Formal letters and a CV

Unit 3.

Grammar: Reported speech, statements, questions and commands

              Passive:be + past participle

              Relative clauses: Defining and non-defining

Vocabulary: Shopping, cinema, what people do

Pronunciation and listening: Consonant sounds, sentence stress, word stress 

Writing: A film review

Unit 4.

Grammar: Third conditional

               Question tags, indirect questions

               Phrasal verbs 

Vocabulary: Making adjectives and adverbs, compound nouns, television, phrasal verbs

Pronunciation and listening: Sentence stress, intonation in question tags, revision of sounds, linking

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Theoretical sessions will analyse the texts included in each unit, which students will have read previously. Students will do grammar and vocabulary exercises, and will write short compositions.

Practical sessions will be devoted to improve students' listening and oral skills by listening to real English recordings and by participating in pair and group work activities.

 

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

Attendance to theoretical and practical sessions is essential to meet the academic requirements of this subject.

The exam will evaluate students' grammatical competence, their knowledge of vocabulary, and their use of English and listening comprehension skills.

Students will do a ten-minute oral presentation on a topic of their choice or suggested by the teacher. This topic will be related to any of the units previously analysed in class.
