3. CONTENT DESCRIPTION

This course aims to provide an introduction to several essential tasks for music teachers: tools to plan music lessons, approach to the main educational methods, the creation and compilation of specialized resources for teaching and learning music as well as an introduction to the innovation and research on Music Education topics, which is quite relevant to the future development of the profession.

1. Introduction. Music in Primary Education.

2. Planning in Music Education. Planning elements: how, where, when. Practical examples.

3. Musical Education methods: from major international methods to recent contributions in Spain.

4. Analysis and study of specific resources for Music Education: from perception to performance.

5. Research on Music Education: discussion of a relevant range of research innovative methodologies and their application to diverse topics in music education theory and practice.

4. COURSE DESCRIPTION AND TEACHING METHODOLOGY

Active learning methodology including daily activities, presentations, listenings and exercises (both individual and collective) related to the theoretical and practical contents. The diversity of learning methodologies contains theory lessons (bigger groups), practical lessons (smaller groups) and specialized single tutorials. Final exam paper.

Students with special educational needs should contact the Student Attention Service (Servicio de Atención y Ayudas al Estudiante) in order to receive the appropriate academic support

5. ASSESSMENT METHODOLOGY

1. ATTENDANCE AND BEHAVIOUR (10%)

Student's attendance to lessons, office, and seminaries planned through the academic year, as well as participation and behaviour.  

2. THEORICAL CONTENTS (40%)

Writen theory exam.

3. PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES, PROJECTS AND PAPERS (50%)

Preparation of practical activities, presentation of projects and papers.

FINAL GRADE/MARK

Average of theory exam (40%), plus practical activities (50%) plus attendance/behaviour (10%). It is necessary to pass each different item separately; if not, the final grade will be fail.
